A backup is a copy of a file or directory on a separate storage device.[1] No one is completely safe from power outages, corrupt hard disks, an infected system through a backdoor or trojan, or even a fire. To make sure that a computer can easily be restored to a previous point, software developers created what is called backup software or imaging software.

It is a well-known fact that most computers are susceptible to hard drive crashes or virus attacks.[2] Backing up information is a practical and necessary precaution to protect one's data from being lost forever.

There are several realistic methods for backing up data. The best backup method for your data depends opon many factors, including: the importance of the data, the amount of data to be backed up, and the funds available for backup.
